Benjamin Grayland

Hello! I'm a computer science student currently completing my Honours year at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia. Before that, I worked in the fintech industry as a product owner and business analyst.

Now
Working on Honours thesis exploring neural cellular automata with discrete states in the Wireworld domain.

Research interests
Artificial life; self-organising systems; exotic and unusual computational models and substrates. I'm very interested in opportunities to learn more about molecular biology.

Projects and research

Honours thesis.

Representation and Guidance Mechanisms in Neural Cellular Automata for Learning Precise Target Patterns, in progress.

MoveMemorE vehicle motion replay.

For my Bachelor's capstone project, my team developed VR software that uses GPS and inertial data to replay recorded journeys. The software connects directly to the NOVA motion platform to control its 360° motion, synchronising physical movement with the VR visuals to recreate the sensation of the original journey.

Fantasy computers

As a hobby project, I'm working on a series of fictional computers and video game consoles, each with their own unique architecture and instruction set. I'm working on an emulator for the first of these now, Amulet.
